2014 custom Power steering pipes replacement

Postby Tezenforcer40 » Fri Jan 14, 2022 6:51 pm

Hi Guy's,
Just had the van MOT'd and it passed with advisory, Monitor and repair, Power Steering pipe/hose has slight seepage at clip near rack.
How difficult a job is this? and could the work be carried out from a pair of commercial grade car ramps?
I carry out all my own servicing in general but just concerned about access.
The cost of parts, two pipes and nut £245. Being a tight arsed pensioner i would like to do it myself if possible.
The MOT station quoted £300 for parts plus 2hours @ £40 per hour labour.
Regards Tez

Hi Tez,

I have just completed this a couple of days ago on my 2015 Custom Limited. It's fairly easy, and can be completed from the driver's side front wheelarch. If you are mechanically competent it shouldn't be too much trouble, a little fiddly, but not too much so

A little advice, offer the nut (which goes to the pump) up to the high pressure pipe before fitting. They are a one time use only, and so once they are on, they are on. Some will go on easily, others may need a gentle tap, and in that case it is best to gently hold the pipe in a vice and tap it on

All the best Meridian

Looks like it's that time of year, got a leak on mine but can't find it at the moment, I have cleaned it all off and will see what appears. I have tried to down load a photo of the area but I can't seam to do it.

Mine went last year as well. Was a 2015 van i had then. The garage I use said they replace about 7 or 8 sets a month on transit customs. The metal pipes are so thin and not corrosive protected which suggests they are not fit for purpose.

My garage charged me £318.55 a few month back (inc parts).

The pipe went without warning and the van was undrivable at low speeds (very heavy, as you'd imagine).

My van is 2014. So yes, pretty terrible in terms of corrosion. Pipes (well, the steel section) looked awful when it came out.

Just to confirm previous posts, both mine replaced on 2015 56K. £270 for both pipes. Plus fitting. Going to wax oil or grease them up now. Can't say I am impressed with the ford custom.
30K = new front discs and pad due to corrosion on discs separating.

40K = new thermostat and housing.
56K = 2 x pipes , suspension arm, 2 new brake pipes.
