Buying a 2017 transit with no 5th gear

Postby Barhar » Mon Aug 22, 2022 5:04 pm

Hello,
I’m thinking of getting a 2017 van, 78,500 miles on it but won’t go into 5th gear. It’s been driven like this by the owner for a year. He’s given me a rough quote for a repair of between £500-£1500. I could potentially get this van for £9k but is it worth the hassle? Would the van have other problems due to being driven without 5th gear for so long?
Any advice would be much appreciated.

Cheers

I replaced a few bearings in mine. Cant think of what would stop 5th engaging. Just check the split pit in the shift lever on top of the gbox.
(assuming 2017 is the same box as 2014.
