Battery going flat

Postby jmejme196501 » Fri Nov 04, 2022 10:36 pm

I have a 2013 Custom Sport with 51k the battery keeps going flat
No issues during the summer, warm or hot weather but as the weather changed and now damp cold and rain battery goes flat and requires external charging
The battery and alternator have been tested ok

Could this be due to water ingress onto ecu causing a trickle discharge?
Anyone else’s had similar problem?

Thanks

Hi jmejme,
Having a few probs myself with a battery that cooked (fitted new battery, reset battery voltage memory) and an alternator with a bad bearing, went to local garage sent me to ford because they recon the Body Control Module was faulty but alternator ok, got to fords, they said BCM ok, need alternator. typical!
Anyhow had new alternator fitted, new battery went flat, no charge from new alternator!!!!
Disconnected the plug/cable on the Battery Voltage Sensor (little black box on the negative battery post) and the alternator started to charge up the battery.
Having it tested on Monday at Fords. I think the Battery Voltage Sensor is faulty.
Try pulling the plug off yours to see if it sorts it out.
good luck!

Ford garage didn't get back to me about booking in the van so I bought the battery voltage sensor from the online Ford shop. £128.00
Ha, package arrived this morning, opened it and it was empty. what a bunch of *******.
Will let you know what happens as we go............ :(

Hi did you get any further with the problem?

I tried various methods of resetting this item via vids I found on utube but to no avail

Hi Jmejme
Just this minute replaced the voltage sensor on the negative post of the battery, (they finally sent me one)
I had hoped this would solve the problem but as soon as I connected the wire to the sensor the alternator stopped producing current, so I am back to square one.
I'll get back to you if and when I have sorted it

Hi, sorry for the delay in replying, as it stands at the moment I still have the battery voltage sensor disconnected and the battery is fully charged all the time.
If I get to the bottom of this problem I will let you know.
