How do you fit Aux Belt around Tension pulley?

Postby paraskills » Wed Mar 13, 2024 8:27 pm

Transit Custom 2.2L Duratorq with aircon. 2013

Hi Guys,

The Aux belt does go between the spring assembly and the tension pulley; however, there is little room under the pulley and timing cover. It there a trick to it.
It's a bit hard to see the top side of the spring. Is there a locking hole somewhere?

Appreciate a head up. The image attached uses the old belt (cut) to show the required routing.

Cheers,

Pete

I'm afraid it is not quite that simple. I have just done this myself.

You have to remove the tensioner, 2 bolts I think. But before that, you have to move the aircon compressor out of the way to get at the tensioner bolts. No need to disconnect any piping, just remove 3 bolts and push the aircon aside.

The tensioner has a 1/2 square hole in so you can fit a ratchet in to tension the spring but you may struggle to get a conventional ratchet in due to the proximity of the chassis. I had to make up a "special" tool by grinding a hex head bolt to have a sqaure, short, shank.

It is not as easy as you would like it to be.

I hope that helps.

Thanks Zeus20,

Great! At least I now have a game plan.

Thanks again.
