Likely cost for timing belt replacement (2.0L engine)

Postby Keith_S » Fri Mar 22, 2024 12:17 pm

As per my recent posts I'm in the market for a used Custom, it will probably be the 2.0L version and my budget means I'm looking at something in the 90,000 - 110,000 mile range which then raises the possibility (necessity?) of replacing the timing belt.

I understand this is an involved process (my mechanical knowledge is very limited) and includes the following (taken from https://thevandoctor.co.uk) :

Timing Belt
Timing Belt Tensioner
Timing Cover
Oil Pump Belt
Oil Strainer
Sump Pan
Water Pump
Stretch Belt
5 x Engine Mount Stretch Bolts
Engine Oil
Oil Filter

I'd be grateful if anyone could indicate the likely cost for having this job done properly (not at a dealership)?

not sure of if the parts list is as extensive as yours ..you'll have to ask him.

I've just bought an ex AA 2019 custom with 82,500 miles on it. I had the wet belt changed straight away and it cost me £860 at my local garage.
Better than a £3500 replacement engine though, and I know I'm good for the next 80k miles.

Hope this helps
