Diesel Filter Change

I'm just wondering whether anyone on here has done away with the plastic bucket fuel filter under the van and instead used the filter set up from the the MK7 ?
As far as I can see, it's just a case of sorting out the plumbing/wiring.
It would make fuel filter changes far simpler and also prevent any air issues in the fuel line afterwards.
