Single seat base

Postby Cider Andy » Wed Apr 29, 2026 12:06 pm

I'm looking at replacing my rusty trusty Mk7 with a 2.2 Custom and have been checking what's involved in replacing the twin passenger seat. From what I can tell from various posts on here, a battery box base will bolt in. In the Mk7 a driver's seat battery box base fits the passenger side: is that the case in the Custom. Also, it looks like a plug or a blank needs removing or drilling out. Is that the case?

It's a pair of Range Rover seats I will be looking at installing and which, no doubt, will require modification to the base box. Does anyone have the seat track dimensions to hand? So that's the width between the bolt holes on the pair of runners and also the length of the runners.

couple bits of flat bar across seat base and you can fit any seat just drill and bolt, not sure if it's like mk7 where both the drivers and passenger seat base the same, only thing to watch is the seat height to steering wheel in case your legs are jammed up against the steering wheel

Thanks for that, perhaps the boxes are both the same too.

Cheers Andz.

Yes, I measured them up for fitting in the Mk7 and the height was virtually the same. The seat track is only about 15mm wider that the Mk7 too. The biggest difference was the length of the seat (from backrest to front of seat). I knew the Mk7 (and MK6) had the same base box either side (apart from the handbrake lever) and thought surely the Custom will be the same. But a search on here mention variously opening up blanks and drilling bigger holes, so it wasn't obvious.

The blank holes in the floor are for the correct seat mounting bolts they are self tapping just screw the bolts in with a little push down force and screw in you don’t need to use a tap to fit them
