Rear Light issues.....

Postby Andrew1552 » Fri May 08, 2026 4:31 pm

2014 Transit custom 310

Drivers side rear light doesn't light up with lights ON, Brake light works
Passenger side rear light works, but Brake light does not.

Swapped the bulbs over and same result. So Bulbs are fine.

Have cleaned all the connections (M&F) so they're nice and shiny again.
Have cleaned the 4 earth cables at the back.

Still the same issues.... any ideas as to what to clean/check next?? I'm stumped. :?:

I don't have the wiring diagrams, i don't suppose these lamps are wired Christmas tree style .. and the upper eye level lamp has a break in the circuit.

and if it has a tow bar, check the trailer module wiring and trailer socket ..think i remember that causing someone similar problems.

There's no tow bar, and not sure what you mean by Christmas Tree style, but there's definitely a fault - most likely two? - in the circuit for both of these issues to happen (I believe) simultaneously.

Thank you, can't hurt to check the BCM out and give it a clean anyway.

Like mark said with tow bar...mine had a tow bar lighting module tucked up inside the rear n/s pillar.
So it will be free to check that you don't have one stuffed down in there.

With the bcm plugs, u tend to get other random stuff happening too, cabin light intermittent, cigarette lighter sockets sometimes not working, lights staying on etc.
If u stick forscan on it or any other decent reader, u might see loads of random strange faults (inc the dreaded low fuel pressure on circuit A etc).
Bcm check...
Cup holder off, panel off, lower cup holder out, undo the panel screws by your knee, pull them off, unplug the bcm plugs (they have a locked lever to undo them) then flex the tabs and lift the bcm out.
Get a good torch and look down the socket holes to look for corrosion.

You can undo the bcm casing tiny torx screws and actually get to the board to check it and solder them if you fancy it.

You should probably disconnect the battery etc. I don't bother. But its your shout.
