Rear airco warm/cold air in 2018 Tourneo camper conversion

Postby Kukeltje » Sun Jul 12, 2026 9:29 pm

Hi all,

My gf and I, both from The Netherlands bought a 2018 9 seat (3 front, 10 year old son) Tourneo with double sliding doors, tailgate, all windows in it and, a passenger/rear airco. We've converted it to a camper van and are really proud of it. The only thing remaining is to see if we can reuse the passenger airco that we left in. There are two questions I have about this that I do not seem to be able to find info on, not on the internet, and not in the Ford wiring manuals (do not own a Hayes manual)

We've covered the floor warm air openings since we (think) we do not need the heating part of the airco (we think). The cold air outlets in the roof are gone since there is a poptop now but the big duct in the back corner on the airco is intentionally still there. So in theory it can still blow cold air into the living area of the van. What I'd like to know is whether the warm air openings are still needed to draw air in when we need cooling (to prevent the airco icing up?). If so, could it also work to make one (or two) other openings somewhere close to the airco to draw air in? Can anybody shed some light on this? We could also make 1 or two floor openings open again if that is sufficient.

Second question is that I want to connect this airco to our household battery which is a big Victron LiFePo4 battery that we can charge in multiple ways. We still have the cables and controls for his airco but I would like to know if what we want to do is actually possible?

Cheers,
Ronald

For the aircon to work you need to have the engine running the aircon compressor is run off the engine.
