Spanner light briefly

Postby mbev51 » Fri Aug 21, 2026 5:35 pm

My sons 2019 transit custom has had the spanner come on briefly on the motorway between 60 and 70. He says its also happened at slower speeds. He belives the performance is limited briefly when spanner id illuminared. My odb2 spanner does not read any fault codes. Im going to change the oil tomorrow and put some diesel additive in the tank. Any ideas how we can proceed or does it have to get worse and put a fault code up. Thanks

You need a proper scanner to read what the engine is doing in real time .. the scanner will have a function called "live data"

You will be monitoring a lot of stuff .
the most common to go wrong first is the EGR

You'll be looking for pids ..EGR desired/commanded and EGR actual ..in percent
they should follow each other

if they don't .. proceed to dismantle, clean or replace the EGR

Non of the above you'll be then monitoring the turbo

Again desired / commanded .. and actual should follow desired / commanded

if not you'll be looking for turbo boost pipe leak .. hole , joint etc

if not that ,you'll be looking at the turbo vane actuator or the stepper motor driven gearbox.

if you cant figure out the above .. you'll be taking it to a mechanic

Those are the first things to monitor .. for all i know it may be a dpf or adblue problem or many other things

To be on the same page as most here who answer diagnostics questions.. you'll need forscan .. free to download to a laptop .. you buy the cable .. called vlinker

all the best.mark
