Cloned BCM but now...issues....

Postby davey-dee » Tue Sep 01, 2026 4:40 pm

Hi All
2014 2.2 tdci transit custom. we got it very used and its always had electrical issues.

the abs light was always on
random electrical clitches, like hazards just stop working for no reason
then it just stopped, mechanic diagnosed likely BCM issues so we got a replacement and cloned it. it had already been changed as the one i took out was from a 2020 model, not 2014..
ive had the replacement back and fitted it, but now nothing lights up, front lights work and dash clock, shows milage and the radio works but everything else dead.

i noticed that the fuse box doesnt have a fuse in the ABS location, so went to put one in but nothing to actually fit into, no metal jaws in the fuse hole.

questions:
shall i just take it out the back and put it out of its misery?
the fusebox, should it have a fuse in that location - could the previous owners have swapped it out? yes i know some relays missing ive got them on the way
above the BCM there is another plug, what is that for as its really loose and i can see a circuit board inside, im wondering if thats the issue..
any other ideas? i could chuck the old module back in but if it was faulty it wont really help.

thanks all!

The bcm modules get more populated for vehicles with more stuff I believe. So if u have the crappy basic one like me, you can put anything in. If you have cruise control air-conditioning etc, you have to get a more populated model.
You can solder the pins into the bcm with a flux pen, solder, iron sucky sucky pump and tea.
But u will have to try and clean the female crimps in the coloured plugs. I used a soft tiny wire brush and cleaning spray.
Then clear codes, reset bcm and spray electric contact protection spray.
I thought my van was a goner. Ive done over 100k since I did all that. Its been fine.
