Transit mk1 SVO ex works service barge

Postby boomabang » Thu May 28, 2009 10:12 pm

Hi everyone. I'm trying to locate an ex Ford works rally team Transit mk1 service barge, I have been searching for some time now but with no luck. Failing finding one I would consider an ex German Fire Dept Transit mk1(not the "pedals through the floor") but the later model which I could turn into a replica service barge as they are also lhd and have the two extra doors with windows and single rear door.

Hi Luke,

Nice to hear from you. I live in Northern Ireland, just outswide Belfast. I don't know the reg numbers of any vans all I can remember was seeing them in the service areas on the Cicuit of Ireland Rallys in the seventies.
Any other time I have seen one it has been in a photo. There is a good photo of one on the Paris Dakar rally somewhere among a group of Ford Transit photos on the web but as I came across it by accident I can't remember where. I was on the German ebay site last week and there are several ex German Fire authority Transits of the type I am looking for but the problem is either the language barrier or trying to get one home. There is one in particular with 7071kms on the clock and has been parked up in a garage since 1988. I sent the chap an email to see if he spoke english but as I had no reply I assumed he didn't.

Cheers.

This van would have been ideal, I had a bid on it and was the winning bid up until 2 mins before end of auction but lost to a higher bid of £37. Just my luck! I took my eye off the ball. Thanks for info on German Transits, as you say they look well in photos.

Cheers
