france or Bust!

Postby franceorbust » Tue Jul 20, 2010 11:46 am

hell again all.

as promised more details about what I'm looking for and where I'm going.

Right, I'm of to france to pick up some furniture for a friend. I'm currently van less, so the obvious option is to hire one.

But that thought does not appeal to me. Don't get me wrong, I've been quite happy to hire vans before. But the thought of handing over 200 or 300 pounds when I could better use that cash is not a nice thought. plus there's the matter of a deposit, well put simply I probably don't have it.

So it occurred to me that its about time I bought another van. Problem is I don't have a massive amount of cash but I do have a welder and 2 weeks before I go.

so I'm now looking for a cheep project! Has anyone in the north east got a lwb transit that needs a lot of welding but has sound mechanics. eg a good engine and box?

The welding needed could include both front wings, arches and steps. Even both rear arches and floors. as long as it runs well I don't care. I have replaced the front end of transits before, eg both wings arches and sill(inner and outer) plus step in 2 days. so I hope I'm capable of repairing a 'project' to the point where its capable of getting an mot!

I'm hoping i can find a rotten lwb for about 200 pounds in the NE area?

Do you guys think im being realistic on the price?

Why not buy one in France, drive it back and sell it on? The Uk registered vans aren't worth any sort of money over here. They generally get bought to move furniture over here, hump building materials around and then get passed on at rock bottom money cos right hand drive aint worth a rub to the French.....
I know of an R reg luton thats available for about €500, all up together and running. Not far from Limoges......
I've got a semi

If you can find one anywhere up to the derbyshire border I will let you hitch a ride in our van to pick it up if that helps you widen your plunder...thats the best help I can offer... :D
