How many wheels does yours have? If it's 4, it's a SWB, if it's 6 it's LWB. Go for the same number of wheels on your new chassis cab. What's wrong with your old one?

Ah so it's a SWB. The diesel is a heavier engine so the steering will get heavier.

im worried about it collapseing with the weight

Why? Is the chassi rotten? If not, can't see what you are worried about. We've got 5 conversions (85-85) and none of em have collapsed yet! They are all twin wheelers though!

you were lucky to have light steering to start with, every mk2 ive had always left me feeling exhausted after turning the steering while stationary
unless you get one with power steering it will be almost the same with a mk3 with the same wheelbase

trust me you get used to that, it's just a culture shock when you first convert. I would stick woth what you have got, much much less work.
