Yes, you could use it while hooked up, that would be good.

If you have a charger that can supply more than the current needed by the sink then the battery will still charge a bit at the same time.

Or, as you say, use a separate power supply. You need to check exactly what power it is and get a psu that has some headroom.

Ok, next really stupid question...stainless steel exhausts...diy...there seem to be a lot of threads on here about expensive ss exhausts and how difficult it is to home manufacture the pipes as they are hard to bend. Looking on e bay there are a lot of concertina stainless steel pipe works, rather like the hose on a hoover...

If you use this between the boxes (replacing those with ss ones) and look for the right manifold i assume, does that make it
Possible to build your own stainless steel exhaust system without the fuss of trying to bend pipes or am i being thick again???

Fek that get pre made mandrel bent curves like 90 degree and 45 degree and 180 degree bends.
Come in various pipe diameters too plus you can get straight sections in varying lengths n diameters
And flanges

not sure but id never use the flexi shyte other than maybe on a genny or such!!

pre made bends are an easier way to make a custom zorst cos it only requires welding of bits but can ensure a clean perfect fit for the vehicle in question!

reckon for less than £400 in parts and bit more for welding i could make a split (twin) system for the Essex.. most expensive bits would be the tubular manifolds @ £160 ish and they'd be mild steel, not stainless, but you can get a stainless center and rear box on ebay for £50 ish ;

Robbiemate, im not dismissing your stance by any means, just trying to understand, why is the flexi poor? My experience of ss is that the gauge is the key, so if the flexi is thick enough, it may be ok???
