Can someone tell me what these parts are.

Postby tarmac » Wed Jan 10, 2007 12:45 am

I've picked up my new (second hand) Transit on monday and the oil and diesel on the drive way is telling me I have a couple of leaks :(

The oil seems to be coming from behind this part.

What is it? I might be able to tighten the bolts but I suspect it will need a new gasket. Is that going to be a difficult job?

The diesel leak, seems to be coming from this part. <photo taken from under engine>which sits just behind the left front wheel strut.

It looks like there is an oring seal (arrowed). It could be just that seal.
What is this part, and if I undo the bottom to replace the seal, will I get a tank full of diesel over me? Will I need to re-bleed the system?

An lastly, I heard of something called a TIS? is this a Transit specific manual on CD or a parts list or something else.
I need a manual, and if this is one, where do I get it from?

Thanks for that. For some reason the second picture didn't work (human error).
So the top pic is the brake Vaccum Pump, what the second pic?

The guy I just bought it off said he just replaced the fuel filter. Do they just spin on on off?
I'm going to get covered in diesel aren't I

If I remove the fuel filter, do I need to re bleed the system?

Thanks Jedi. "The plot thickens"
I've cleaned it all off with brake cleaner so I should be able to trace the leak better.

it certainly is - are you sure it's diesel because it looks like it's been leaking oil from the allen bolt in the centre - bung a new o ring on it

picture A is the brake vacuum pump and is a common failure point.......I believe the new transit's vac pump will fit on the old engines and that has had a re design to prevent the leak, but from what i know at the moment it won't be marketed as a direct replacement just yet.

picture B is the oil filter bowl, check that it is diesel......if it is, it's coming from the injection pump or pipe work above it.

It is diesel on the oil filter and I checked above it and found two pipes going into another part, (could be the fuel pump).
One of the clamps on the pipes was a little too high I think an there was a little fluid at the base of the pipe. There wasn't that much but I guess under pressure, more could be forced out.
I'll have another look today once the heat dies off this afternoon.

Oils still coming out of the brake vacuum area. Are we saying that it needs a replacement part? or a new gasket?

can you reposition the clamp?

new vacuum pump is the cure - nighthawk says he thinks the later one fits and it's been modded so thats probably the one to go for

That's why I said looks like rather then it is, as I was unsure. Some of use are here to try and help rather than just take the pi$$.
