Lucus cav diesel pump leak

Postby BlueBikerNut » Fri Apr 19, 2013 10:26 pm

Hi. Guys.. any one know what size seals I need for a leak from the side of the pump. Its the part where its got a second link rod on the shaft if pulled has movement and its leaking only when engine runs. and its going down on engine below the Alternator. If its got seals in would they be "O" rings. and How hard is it. I do not want to remove the whole pump from engine. It looks easy just to undo the largish nut that the spindle comes out of thats got nut on end to hold the ball joint for the link rod. Any help will be welcomed. Only had the transit two days.. But I cant let Diesel dip out on to my drive.. Please reply soon. many thanks..FRED :D
ps..For got to say. My Transit is 1989. 2.5. Mk3..I think..

Never done one, but it's fair to say it's most likely going to be O rings on a rotating spindle

You do not have to remove the pump but it is tricky to do in place for a first timer. If you pull off the plastic rod and take out the 13 and 19mm bolt and nut at the bottom of the housing and take the advance housing off gently. The leak will be from the opposite side where the piston slides. It is a special seal and replace the piston also.Use cav parts only .Your local diesel engineer should be able to supply the parts.Get a gasket set for pump the seal will be in the set but not the piston.Change little spring in there also and watch carefully where everything goes including the shim or shims inside the piston. When replacing use a rubber band to hold the piston in till you fit it back on to the pump.

Now that sounds like a job been done before.. I will see if I can get the replacement kit before I temp to strip it down. My local Diesel shop has moved to pastures new 20 miles away. So its a bit of a trek now. But needing things for it must be sorted. Thank you very much and will report back hopefully when sorted. Regards. FRED :D

Almost perfect 8)

Reducing the picture size in photobucket to 800x600 (or better 640x480) makes the pictures easier to see/load for people using smart phones or a slow internet connection 8)

Need to know this. Before I turn myself up side down in engine bay. and at my age Its no mean feat either. Thanks. look forward for more details..FRED.
