Painting bumpers

Postby Celticbiker » Mon Apr 22, 2013 12:29 am

I was wondering, can the bumpers be painted?
My MK5 is a camper and is finished in ivory but the bumpers are grey and look quite bad (faded/streaky).
I would happily leave them grey if I could make them tidy, if not, can they be painted and if so, with what?
Another option I guess, if it can be done, would be to have them wrapped.

If theres repairs to be done use plastic padding, then use aplastic primer not a normal primer ( no dearer than normal primer) then use normal spray paint ;).

Id recommend upol 1k primer AP or plast 2 AP, key the surface with a scotchbrite and degrease with panel wipe them prime. Remember to do the inner edges. this will help to stop peeling  Would be cheaper to in a paint shop, rattle cans will cost an arm and leg in primer and top coat.

I did mine years ago matt black, 1 can of spray plastic primer, and a litre of matt black polyurethane from the paint refinisher brushed on, did loads of other stuff like mirrors, handles too, cost about 20 quid.

I brush poly on the whole motor  if you have the right brush(50mm proarte prolene flat) and thin the mother it's pukka, need skill though, not for bodgers like bjt.

Cost you the brush price just for gas filters if you spray this shite. My brush is over 20 year old and has done many different types of paint.

Fresh drips of diamond white on the drive add to the street cred.

I use old cleaned out honey jars for the mixes.

Most of the spray painters i know look ill and close to cancerous death.

I hope your sitting down or you might fall over laughing.

I did my bumber with rattle cans from the pound shop (please note £1 shop and not the 99p shop...lol.)

Primer and black high gloss...worked a bloody treat, and still as good as the day I done it. :D

Our 99p shop also does matt black, i sprayed some over an old clock case a fortnight back and even today there is still traces of some overspray adhering to my thumbnail even after multiple scrapings/washing attempts :!:  300ml MEAN MACHINE brand label in red/black canister.
