So this was the fiend! C was power in, 2 was power out to fan, used the red and i reckoned that left 1 as the earth and earth the black wire from the unit. Blew several fuses as the fan worked on zero but blew out every time i turned the dial. Finally decided it must be a fuse rating issue and attached it directly. Nice spark and then nothing. Tried again to understand the relay box and wire that tthrough the original switch on the dash...got the switch on the dash to light but no fan.

Helpful passing by bloke who wanted to show me piccys of his renault said try direct wire and at least that means you can drive in a jam...tried red to battery via fuse and black to earth...and...nothing.

Gave up, started a text frenzy of frustration and despair (sorry) and went out. Came back 2 hours later to get some tools for a small job and a strange noise was all around! Puks fan had kicked in! By now he was all rigged up for the night so had to crawl under in the dark and yank the wires apart to stop it running...my how we chuckled!

True dat, the thing that i struggle with is stuff like i read, i check, i go buy the bits, do and then blow every fuse i have and have to wait a few days! Sparks is such a one go thing and in my case it always seems to be flash, bang, game over very quickly. Grrrr :)

Oh and what are the chances of having a 12v switched fan in the bat cave or is that just too cheeky for a cup of rosy :)
