Fanks old man...was proper chuffed with oneself! Now for tonights conundrum...

Over last couple of days have replaced fan belt and tightened up alternator. Was driving ok, popped underneath to have a look tonight and did the exhaust. One side now has old nut at front, new behind and other side has old nut at front and new one behind. All tightened well. Have been toying with mix to get right and is quite sluggish at 60, unexpectedly...

But after exhaust works well! B@gger me! Now popping every other note and sounds like a clown car! Engine is shaking...now i reckon this must be timing, but does that mean this is the first time the engine has worked??? And why would the timing be that far out???

Hmmm

Sluggish at 60 ?like if put foot down it cuts out?
Does less gas bring it back to life?
If yea either too advanced or too lean or both.
Prob too lean tho if it doesn't stink of petrol !

Thanks Robbiemate, naw, not that simple, struggling at 55 to 60 with foot hard down but engine sounds wrong and growly. Just been out and had a play with the mix and the revs. Can reduce or increase the pops, now thinking that a new exhaust might actually be too small and squeezing the air too tight on way through...either that or timing???

Not too good. 2 cylinders down after checks. Timing now right, mixture now right, popping and petrol smell is unburnt fuel. Yermanmutts is trying to get here again (poor fella) and do some magic :(

Hope its your plugs or leads or something!

Well, here we go...again, third rebuild of the year. Many thanks to Mutts for taking the head off and finding the problem...yes a one in a million chance, no doubt he will post the issue but frankly too complicated to try and remember tonight...

But, have replaced my first head gasket, now have mutts bottom end, Tims head, mutts top. So glad we had 2 engines!
