Water where it's not wanted

Postby steamdrivenandy » Thu Feb 15, 2007 12:29 pm

Has anyone ever experienced a water leak into the o/s/r floor around the wheelarch?
Ours is fully trimmed out and the carpet gets sopping after use in the rain, but the trim material on the sides are bone dry, even the bit adjacent to the damp floor. We have the large single hatchback type door which will drip water into the area on both sides when open, but this drenching happens when the door is shut.
The rubber seal to the door opening on the o/s looks as if it isn't seated as well as the n/s and I wonder whether that might let in water although it looks more like it's coming in from underneath the floor somewhere.
Any thoughts welcome.[Image]

did you remove the load tie down hooks when you trimmed it?

if so, did you refit the bolts?

Mmmm
I didn't know that there were tie down hooks originally as it was trimmed by the converter Horizons Unlimited (see horizons-unlimited.co.uk) or via roywoodtransits.co.uk.
Our Tranny was their demo Innovation last Spring and was kitted out for disabled use. That included an electric hoist in the rear 'garage', which was bolted to the floor in the area where the flooding occurs. However I've had a good hard look at the 'bungs' they fitted to the holes that were left behind and they look like they've been comprehensively gunged underneath.
What do you think?

could it be the rear door seal?

I was wondering about that.
If you look on the photo the o/s seal adjacent to the bottom of the rear light cluster doesn't seat as well on the metal gutter/joint as on the n/s. I've tried to ease it on further but the bulk of the trim on the inside makes it difficult. However when you inspect the seal after rain there doesn't appear to be any signs of moisture on the closing face of the seal. which I guess you'd expect if water was going passed it. Difficult to know at this time of year 'cos it's just not warm enough to dry out the carpet.

apologise for my ignorance on this model. But does it have a rear wash ? and if so could it be leaking. Had this on a vectra once took ages to figure it out.

the pipe was leaking in the roof and water was running as water does to anywhere it likes you know.

It should have had rear wash/wipe as the base van was ordered as an SE model with aircon, heated windscreen, electric windows etc but for some reason Ford fitted everything else but not the wash/wipe.
As it was the demonstrator and sold as seen I accepted it on that basis. So no there's no washer piping to leak.
There is a sink on that side of the vehicle and it does have hot and cold water. When we first got the van there was a slight leak at a water heater outlet but a quick tighten of the jubilee clip sorted that. The water heater is in the space under the rear o/s passenger seat which is just behind the driver.
At present all the water tanks are drained down to avoid winter frost damage so although there might be a bit of residual water in them it isn't enough to drench the small area at the back.

On my last Jumbo i didnt have wooden floor fitted for a while, when it was wet the loading area was swimming with water, i took the lower ply panels off, and where the floor met the side walls i could see daylight and the road below, this was almost all the way around the loading area, got some mastic and bonded it up then coated it in undersill...But i couldnt beleive what i was seeing!!

D'you think Ford would still be using '02 rubber seals on a '05/'06 production Mk 6?

Never realised it was that new :o

Well, it was just a thought :)

How about running a hose on it for 10 mins (now the ban is lifted  )while monitoring the inside

That's a thought.
I could get the missus to clean it while I sit inside with a cup of tea.
Excellent.
