8'x4' sheets in SWB Custom

Postby sle1r » Tue Jul 22, 2014 1:13 pm

Hi All,

So I have read that you can fit an 8'x4' sheet in the new SWB transit custom either flat or on its side (both in Fords blurb and on the forum)

I went to look at one at the stealers today and I just couldn't see how it would fit standing upright. Short of going to Homebase and buying a sheet I couldn't work it out.

Can anyone confirm that they can get an 8' x 4' sheet in the SWB transit custom, laid on its side. By 8'x4' I mean a full 2440mm x 1220mm sheet of mdf and not a euro sheet of plasterboard which are nominally 2400 x 1200...

I dont want to lay the boards flat as then the tools will have to go on top. Ideally they will need to lay against the side of the van alongside the wheel arch.

Appreciate it if anyone has one that can let me know before I make a big C££K up!

Cheers
Simon.

They fit flat on the floor no problem but need to go diagonally if they're standing up because of the bulkhead.

Well assuming 8'x4' sheets of plasterboard are the same size as 8'x4' sheets of mdf then yes they fit laying down and standing up. Had 10 boards in mine standing up yesterday.

I found they fit along the floor but the way the bulkhead is shaped and also the curve of the tops of the rear doors meant I couldn't get full sized sheets in on their side and shut the doors-they needed a wedge cutting off, about 1.5inch down to nothing.

Tried an 8x4 sheet of 18mm today standing upright and it fits perfectly! Not sure what I'm doing differently to you guys!

They're probably talking about a double cabin Stoney.

They're not talking about a DCiV because 8x 4 sheet wouldn't fit flat on the floor or standing up and that's in a L2 (lwb)

I'm not going mad am I? I know they fit, and I know mines a swb coz it's a sport and they don't do sport in lwb! I'm not saying it's not tight, but they fit!

Now you've got me thinking I'm going mad! Mine is a SWB van, not a crew/double cab and admittedly I've racked it out but not by a huge amount so if you guys are all saying yes you can fit them in on their side, maybe my racking is the issue? I haven't tried plasterboard, but couldn't fit full sized sheets of ply unless they went in diagonally- it wasn't too big by much but it was too much to be able to shut the door without trimming them...

Imperial 8x4 sheets deffo go in SWB , mine is racked out along both sides and I can still get them in, not straight in but at a slight angle along the length, I can also get them in flat the way I did my racking.

8x4 sheets fit in my mk7 SWB straight, in my old mk5 they had to go in at slight angle so mk7 SWB must be slightly longer than mk5 SWB
