fuel gauge broken

Hi, I have an old 92 Transit camper with a 2.5D engine. The fuel gauge has never worked since I bought it any ideas on what it could be and fixes?

hi mate.
it could be the sender in the tank.
i used to have an old mgb that read full all the time, turned out to be the sender.

hiya mate,
sender is in the tank, not sure what a transit one looks like but it cant be that much different to the one i changed on my mg 
as luke said: check the wiring also
