Cab shelf and roof lining.

Postby Owlie » Thu Dec 18, 2014 9:16 pm

Evening all. Couple of questions about the cab in my mk6.

The metal shelf above the cab firstly. Is it structural? If not how do I remove it? Have seen a minibus thread in here the other day that had a roof lining (high roof) that went all the way to the roof with no cab shelf. Also seen a panel van for sale on the bay the other day with the same roof lining?

What are these normally fitted to, or were they a special order part when the van was new? How difficult are they to find now?

If any one has removed the shelf to make a walk through cab what did you do about a roof lining and mounting the sun visors and lights? Any ideas? Thanks, Joe.

Shelf is riveted in, it's not structural and can be removed by chiseling or drilling rivets

Head cloth was standard in minibuses and some camper conversions

Sun visers fit to screen frame, not shelf, lights fit into new head lining
You can still buy new ones from Ford

2013 Ford Fiesta Van 95ps

Not sure on the original build of mine, but it has no visible shelf as there is an air-con unit sitting behind the head board.

Cheers Paul, that cab roof lining is exactly what I'm after. Knew I'd seen one somewhere before! Finding one is going to be the next mission...
