Running really rough

Postby coasty » Sat Mar 31, 2007 9:43 pm

Hi All
My 2000 LWB Hi top Duratorq 2.4 has broken down today. Initially i noticed the oil light come on , then almost immediately it started losing power and sounding rougher and rougher, called the AA had it transported home. It still runs but sound like there is nails instead of oil in it ( the oil level is ok)and it ticks over very unevenly. Does anyone have any suggestions for; what it potentially could be, anyone in the Dartford/Erith area that could fix it , and where could i possibly get another engine from.

Thanks
coasty

Can't imagine what can be funny about somebodies car breaking down. As I have a couple of Land Rovers I know how annoying iy can be when you run into trouble.
The fact that your oil level is still ok possibly indicates that there is no leak or gasket problem. However the noise you are hearing is almost indicating that there isn't any oil. As you only hear the noise now and then you would almost think there isn't enough oil with one of the cylinderheads.
First have the engine looked at before replacing it. Might be interesting to just revise part of your engine instead of replaceing the whole engine.
Have you tried looking in the engine via the spak plugs?

Oh so true. But what is the english term for a; gloeibougie? Glow-plug?

What ever they are called, try to have a look in the engine via the ....-plugs or injectors.

The glow plugs are so far out of sight it would be a nightmare to even get to them , as far as the injectors go the noises sound further down in the engine. I am tempted to try a flush and oil change as there is minimal cost involved but i feel it would be amazing if this did help. Was this suggestion based on a similar experience?

Was based on my bros. Renault 5 many many years ago, when a "faulty" filter went on it :!:
The engine was never the same :( but it soldiered on :!:

Always buy a trusted filter

How long ago :?:
