Transit custom limited delivered this week :)

Postby 7up_elise » Sat Jan 31, 2015 7:42 pm

So after a massive palava with vanarama, my new custom limited finally arrived Thursday!

First impressions of the van are brilliant! Coming from a mk6, there's obviously no comparison, but I'm over the moon with it so far!

Today I ply lined the rear to remkge that ghastly floor protector, and gave her a good clean as she had traveled 200 miles to be delivered!

Just a couple of questions, does this model have stop start? If so do I need to turn it on somehow?

Also I noticed whilst flicking through the manual that nothing has been stamped in the book regarding the dealer?

Surely there should be a dealer stamp in there and the warranty bit should be filled out?

Other than those queries which I need to chase up,I absolutely love it!

If its got stop start it will be on all the time unless you switch it off every time you start the van up...
The switch is to the right of the main clocks......next to the parking sensor switch.....its marked ECO

Hi Tiny,
I too have ordered through Vanarama, what issues have you had?. They did seem to be pretty well organised and on the ball. Also they said that my van would come with ply lining... Was this not the case for you?

If it's anything like the system on my sons' VW Caddy, it has an alarming habit of stopping just as you are about to pull out into a busy road  You have to make a conscious effort to keep your foot on the accelerator to stop it happening

I found ordering through a main dealer a painful and rubbish service, Vanarama can't be much worse.

The only real issue so far is the long delivery time but I have a van that works just fine so that isn't an issue with me, ordered it by email, paid deposit by debit card... As long as it comes with a tow bar, pop up toast rack on the roof and painted in Jewish racing gold....Sorry, Tectonic silver, then I'm a happy bunny

I'm curious, how do these stop start thingies work? does it have a motor built into the flywheel like Renault tucks had to ensure a smooth pull away or does it rely on the starter motor like Fiat tried in the eighties

Not at all sure that I like the idea of a starter motor engaging all the time in start stop traffic

I was referring to the power limiter when you're driving. I had a base Custom on loan for a few weeks while I was waiting form my Sport and every time I wanted to overtake or go above 60, I had to switch the bloody Eco mode off.

I'm talking about a Caddy, but I'm assuming the system on the Custom is similar ................................

If you come up to a junction, and sit with your foot on the brake, the engine will stop after a few seconds, and re-start when you press the throttle. If you remove your foot from the brake before the engine stops, and press the throttle to fast idle, the engine will stay running.
It's OK if you remember to do it, but can be a bit scary when the engine stops just as you are about to pull on to a busy road :!:

My wife's smart had stop/start and I remember that took some getting used to! Certainly made you think twice about pulling out of junctions! But then again the smart wasn't really that good at anything... Lol! Although she did love it!

The van did come with 'ply lining' fitted, but this was literally 2 bits of ply either side, and the wheel arches boxed. The rest was the standard ford hardbord panels. I have now fitted and carpeted over the top of the floor liner as it was good for nothing!

Yet to rack it, but until the sun comes I can live with just the floor being done!
