Oooooh, yes, well spotted! The film is set in 1983, which is stretching the 'debut' of the Mk2 phase2, but there could have been a prototype! Could have been worse, they did offer me X reg plates!! Worse still, the artistic director said the blue bus wasn't 'right', although it hadn't been touched but had generic seats from new instead of ford seats.

Here's our bus on set for a music vid, action set in the 80's miner's strike. The livery is mostly my own work and I was well chuffed with the result.

Is that mirror tint in the windows Fred or is it just the light?

Don't ask me why, the art director decided that he didn't like the windows, like the police didn't ever have minibuses! I wouldn't mind, but things got so bad in the miners strike that the coppers were brought in anything with wheels, minibuses vans, fridge boxes...... I suppose the art director knows best :?

Sorry about the picture quality, forgot my camera! This Mk1 will be in 'Starter for Ten' but is nothing to do with us (I think it took the place of our Alex :P ). I got wrapped on this one, arrived on set, hung around all morning, had a nice lunch then was allowed to go as the van wasn't needed (Mk2 phase2 LWB Luton) :( . Will still get paid though........

Image

Now, your starter for ten is what's wrong with this van? Clue - it arrived on a D plate. I think they may have dropped a few number plates on the floor and they got all mixed up  . I couldn't find out much about it, looks OK on camera and is basically sound but has a couple of bits wrong with it (passenger window won't wind up, and there's a nasty crease on the passenger sill), just like most film vehicles (ours included! ). The guy with it said it was 'brought in', which I take to be what they call a dry hire in the trade, renting without the driver. May this be a warning to you. The owner had sprayed over the back windows (as we did with our Mk2 panel before having them paneled in with metal), and the art director didn't like it. The last I saw they were scraping the paint off. As the owner wasn't there to ask, I have no idea if they would be happy with this or not...........

BTW, re the music vid. It was for rock band Funeral For a Friend and the track was History. The vid will be out around 1 oct, ahead of the single. Let's hope it make MTV and TOTP! :D

This is Notting Hill Gate, circa 1983. These market traders are getting richer, and the Mk2 phase2 launch was really early in this BBC universe...............

Same production as the last pic, Alex being a Special Branch van. I suspect this might end up on the cutting room floor, as they did the same shot with a Jag! The SB coppers were supposed to be turning up to remove a lot of evidence, so you wouldn't have thought what would fit in a tranny would fit in the boot of a jag!!

At the weekend in very sunny Clackton on Sea. Waiting to go down to the set, the ice cream van was the star. Stop me and buy one!
