Spent most of the day shimming the damaged hinges so that I now have a drivers door that works. it was jamming on the wing so that it would only open about 100mm (4") ,and, as I am no longer a teenager I couldn't quite squezze through...... I did this as I think, due to this problem now being quite common, I may be in for a bit of a wait for the new hinges......the dealer said "Fords may get funny if you mess about with it",..... well we'll see, if they hadn't bent, I wouldn't have had to mess about with them....it was either that or damage the wing..!!

This happened to mine, went to fords Aylesbury and they were ages contacting me so I complained to Fords complaint Dept online, my van went in within the week, they had it 2 weeks and I got a Renault Traffic 64 plate as a replacement (lovely van) Fords complaint Dept were ringing me 2 or 3 times a week to make sure everything was ok. After it was all finished they sent me a voucher for £70 to use at Fords. LED's in the load area for me now.

So it would seem that they have not modified the new ones off the production, its that or the mod doesn't work.... I have it on good authority that its the " A " pillar flexing as well.......I'll post up what happens when my one gets done.

Hi,
It has just happened to our Tourneo. Ford were very helpful and took photos and got back to me saying it was a warranty job. No quibbles or excuses. Body shop man says it is quite common and the door check strap is a fraction too long so it just amplifies the issue. He gave it a temporary repair as I needed the van for a week in Northern Ireland and it involves pushing hard against the wing until it pushes all the way back in. Has lasted a week already but is booked in for full repair at the start of May.

Cheers, James.

Interesting that this is still running 14 months later, shame really as otherwise it's a cracking van!

Well, the vans door hinges have been repaired, the repair seems very good, the paint is as good as the factory finish, Ford customer care supplied me with a replacement van whilst mine was being repaired, and to top it off, I have been sent a letter that will cover the cost of my first 24mth/30000 mile service, quite happy with that, thanks to BARRY W for suggesting I put my complaint on Fords facebook page, it really got things moving..!!

I'll post some photos in the next couple of days, the check strap looks the same, however, when the door is opened and comes to the stop at ' wide open ' it has a different feel about it, its a little difficult to explain, the hinges look the same, but are braised, yes, braised to the door, according to fords technical bulletin, it spreads the load, it all seems O.K. so maybe it wasn't the hinge distorting, but the door or 'A' pillar twisting, time will tell.

What were the engineers thinking when the allowed the door to open that ridiculously wide open anyway. And with no 'hurdles' in the first part of opening.
I bet he or she lives in the countryside and not in a crowded city.

Happened to me yesterday, was really windy, and just ripped out of my hand. Driver door wont open now, unless i push the wing in. Either the wing has pushed out or the hinge position has moved

Any updates on how to repair this fault?

Take it to your local Ford dealer, its a known fault, you should have no trouble getting it done under warranty, Fords repair involves mig brazing the new hinge to the door, not something I would suggest you do if the van still has warranty, as a temp repair you could try shimming out the hinges on the "A" pillar,to get the door open you could try covering the back edge of the wing with gaffer tape, then , using a couple of filler spreaders , open the door and use the spreaders to help the wing go under the leading edge of the door.

My van door on the sport ( drivers ) is catching on the body kit and worn the paint off . The door looks not to be flush with the wing ( which is proud to the door ) ... Is this the hinge ? It's not been let go in the wind oddly

Door and wing should be flush with each other, if it were mine, I would take it to the dealers and ask them to check it,...... it won't heel up on its own...
