Had to change timing chain after it jumped about 4 teeth .Got the garage to do it ($2000Aus) but than got a call that valve(s) seems to be bent and they quoted me $4000Aus (about 2000 pounds) to remove head and recondition head .
I thought that was a bit expensive and had the van towed back home intending to do the job myself (except the head reconditioning).
Pulled the engine out and took the chain cover of and surprise ..surprise ...first of all chain markings where not lining up with sprockets markings .
Well ...I thought maybe they just replaced the chain without bothering about the chain marks but the alignment should be at least correct .
How wrong I was . Camshaft sprockets and injection pump lined up ok but crankshaft was out 3 teeth . Could not believe my eyes and checked it out a few times to make sure I'm not wrong and I was not .
Called garage and told them about the wrong timing chain alignment and got told that was impossible . After telling them that I'll show them the pictures I've got
told off politely . Anyway would not take any car to that shop anymore seeing the bad workmanship ...even if it would be free .
Realigned everything and now I would like to check the compression to see if there is any damage or not to any valves but have to remove injectors and not sure what tools and how to remove them without damaging or what is the simplest way to check compression without removing the head .
Turned the engine over a few times with the starter motor and it sounded ok but I want to make sure there is proper compression .
Could anybody give me some advise removing injectors tools, compression testing tools ?
Cheers,
Andrei
