am I right in thinking the chain needs replacing at certain intervals ? I'm sure I read it somewhere . It's just that I'm looking for a van at the moment & most adverts here are saying 'chain, no maintenance needed'. makes me wonder about the fsh.lol
I'm bumping this as I'd also like to know the answer
Thanks

There is no defined service time for the chain, some people replace them at 100k, others wait till they rattle, to be honest the tensioner is more likely to fail than the chain

Its right on the change over. It could be a late registered mk5 or a early mk6.
Best put your reg number on here then it can be checked which van u have.

My Minibus was down as a 2l diesel when I bought it, some eejit simply registered it wrong with the DVLA. Luckily, I knew what it really was when I saw it :P

Hi,
I have a 1996 Autosleeper camper van with a ford transit base . I don’t know if it’s classes as Mk1 , 2 or whatever .
On my registration it says Transit100 SWB
It’s 2496 cc
Would this have a cam belt or would it have a chain please ?

Year 1996 will be a Mk5 Transit with a 2496cc Di diesel engine, which has a belt. Replace it if you don't know when it was last done.
