Grrrrrr van is with my trusted mechanic/welder and he is trying to sort out the chassis outriggers from where it failed near rear suspensioin point. So far has grinded off a length just over 12inches of underseal, covering filler, covering cardboard! Yes some bodgers repairted the outrigger chassis rail with cardboard to get it through last years MOT. I had an idea it was a bit dodgy but did not realise it was that bad.....

so I am committed......

I spent Saturday taking the van apart and bashing it with a pointy hammer to see what gave and what was good

Keeping all the screws and it organised after once putting a ton in a bucket and then working out how long this one needed to etc

Bought some universal armrests from ebay as whilst I like the Tourneo seat with its armrests I miss the comfort of the Recaro. After a bit of guess work and some minor cuts into the fabric I found a M8 threaded insert on each side. Now only have to find a fixing for the lower bolt and job done I can switch the seats back round.

I have just taken up BMX racing on a 24" cruiser bike in the old man class and been thinking about practicalities of some race meets and how to use van as a day camper. The middle seats bolt straight into the rear. Do not use all the bolts but this is not for carrying passengers. Mocked up a bit of mdf to see if it would be suitable and actually it is just about okay for me. I will therefore incorporate some sort of easily removed bed etc.

So not as bad as some I have seen on here that have been saved. All four arches had seriously been bodge repaired. Cut off of metal and tons of fibreglass along with silicone sealer for extra fun! In fairness I suspected that they had been bodged when I bought it, but I knew they would all need doing anyway.

This will be a slow update as I am now away from it for a couple of weeks at least.

Need to get underneath it with some goggles and the pointy hammer to have a good look at the rails etc.

Couldn't get bumper off the rear as the bolts been somewhat covered in underseal! Assume that simplest was is to just grind/cut off and push the bolts out etc as I will buy a new bumper to colour code.

sad to announce that I have decided to call it a day on this lovely lady. Best intentions and plans, but practicalities mean I will not get her restored so she is for sale as a project and I have jumped to the dark side of T4 ownership. If that does not work then might split her into pieces which I thought I would never do.

Strange that I bought my Mk5 (not Tourneo but had tints and air con front and rear) from a chap in Folkstone in 2006. IT had new MOT. Bit of rust on rear wheel arch. Booked it in to get done and ended up with a £1500 bill as the near side was rotted out. Stuffed with newspaper, body filler and under seal. Still it did have a genuine new engine and box from Fords (bills to prove).
