Postby jimbo » Wed Nov 02, 2005 9:24 pm

Hi again, my first question for all you experts is ,on my mk2 motorhome fitted with a 2.5 diesel and 4 speed box the overdrive is very unreliable ,some times it goes in first time ,better when its cold ! as soon as any stress is put on it it drops in and out of overdrive turn it off and she will drive all day but get a bit anoying after a while (very noisy ).Other time if you switch it on it wont do anything usually when it gets warmer abvout 3 miles is about enough to bring on these symptoms got any ideas or is it a rebiuld ?. second question is have I got a DI engine or is it a YORKY no one seems to know the van is a 1982 on a Y plate if that helps . I will post some photos when I have worked out how cheers all JIMBO

problem overdrive

Firstly check the gearbox oil level, top up if nescesary. then check all the terminals on the gear stick & inhibitor switches, ( two prong brass switches that stop you selecting 1st & 2nd.) should not be too difficult. once checked for supply then earth, nearly always electrical. good luck

as john says its electrical conections somewere! or solinoid, as for your engine if the van is original engine it will be a york diesel , the way to tell this is has it a glow plug /preheat on the dash when you turn the ign on then its a york! or look at the front of the cylender heard if you can see a glowplug at the front its a york engine! :D
