EPIC Fuel Pump Cam Sensor

Postby edtheprofet » Tue Aug 09, 2016 11:41 pm

Hi all,

I have a 2.5TD with Lucas Epic Pump in a rusty LDV :D .. possibly fuel pump is on its way out. Have got coded faults 1174 and 1176 (cam position) on Lucas Laser but its very intermittent.

I'm looking for a replacement cam sensor, one off a broken pump is fine as long as it didn't have the same errors. A whole broken pump is also OK.
The cam sensor is bolted on to the side of the pump with two allen keys. I can send photo or diagram if needed.

Can anyone help please?

Also.. yes I should just change it to a Bosch - anyone got spare ;)

It won't be the sensor... it will be the advance cam itself sticking inside the pump. You need a new pump!

I am looking for pump and conversion bits as well ;) The reason I'd like to try the sensor is because the resistance readings on the current one are outside the acceptable limits and the EPIC service manual suggests this is sensor being at fault rather than the pump. Changing the sensor is an easy few mins job for me, changing the pump is a little more daunting! Probably will need to get some assistance on that one.

Thanks for your help :)

Aha

I have a pump which is stripped down at the moment (will never go back together - its for reference) this probably has a good sensor on it ;)

So got another chance to test it today and pretty sure that the sensor is part of the problem.

The cam sensor was reading 65 Ohms (manual says should be less than 50 ohms but mine seems to run happily at 65)
Fiddled about with the sensor and values went over 100 ohm, then open circuit. More prodding and its back to 65 ohms. As far as I can tell its not cables but the sensor itself.

Seems to me a swap has gotta be worth a try.

Matt, thanks I'll PM you :)

Where did you source your replacement sensor?
