What Engine Oil?

Before you ask a question, check to see if it's been asked before. We show all the common Transit faults here and it's a good idea to read through these in case they happen to you in the future!!

ALL late models use 5W-30, you can also use 5W-40. Important is the 5W....
Semi synthetic or full synthetic, doesn't matter!
Check your "Owner's Handbook" for quantity of oil required- it does vary a bit, my 2.5 tdi takes 7 litres with filter (always change the filter as well!)

Hi,
Thanks for all the info,

Just to confirm - my transit is a 260 2l diesel.

5w30 Semi synthetic - is the correct type to get? Should it be ford branded or should I look out for any specific makes?
Any brand as long as it is to Ford spec
OK so please could you specify the difference between Ford spec and non ford motor co. Oil

Ford have a specific spec for the oil to be used in there vehicles. Lots of oil manufacturers make oil to the spec.

Presuming this is an older van, not in warranty, then just go to your local factors and ask for fully synthetic 5w-30 for a Transit.

There is a bit of an oil leek you see; as I have been told fully synthetic oil is for newer engines and will leek on older engines
That is why the cheep 10/40 thick stuff says it is for engines over 10 years old
This is an 03 tranist

So what is the differance between tranist oil from the motor factor shop and cheep supermark brand ASDA or Tesco motor oil?

Using thicker oil refers to older engines with far greater engineering tolerances.
Put thicker oil in a modern engine and it'll have difficulty starting from cold, won't be properly lubricated and will come to the end of its useful life

Cheap supermarket oil will be like cheap supermarket cola. Thin and shitey

OK I see your point about using thicker oils, not lubracating not starting well

But do you think there is any difference between cheep supermarket oil and premier oils from the motor factor shop (same thickness)?

now then, now then
hoz about this then?
as a scientist I occasionally review stuff like this
and from information I am receiving the custom is a different spec oil to the mk7
a little bit
luckily I noticed as I was about to buy a big drum of
FORD WSS-M2C913-C as a treat for them but customs should have WSS-M2C913-D. and not c although d is backwards compatible
C? D? what's the difference ?
I tell thy what the difference is
about 20 quid
bloody ford
