My first Transit, good or bad deal?

Postby glesgabear » Wed May 23, 2007 1:03 am

Just bought my first Transit today ahead of my home extension being built. Its an 04 plate with 45k miles, 85ps T260 for £5,500 in good condition - good or bad deal??? Anything I should be looking out for inn the coming months to keep it in top condition? Also what kinda MPG should I be expecting with it, bearing in mind its not going to be heavy duty moving I'm doing.

sounds good deal, mpg is a whole subject on its own, and depends on so many factors do a search on it as everyone gets different amounts depending on how full or empty the van is

Well just for a change I'm not going to agree with everyone else, not that I'm saying you got a bad deal, I'd just like to reserve judgment until I have seen pictures of it

Unless it's a complete bag of sh!t, you've got a good deal there.
I get anything from 32 running about, to 38 MPG distance, so expect similar.
Watch out for the rust! :!:  On the SWB, watch the sills and seam against the rear wheelarch leading edge, the whole of the underside, rear door shuts, roof seams, etc.......
Door shells seem ok though. These are going to be as bad as any previous Transit me thinks :(

But of course! nobody would buy a new one if their old one lasted for ever. we just got a brand spanking new 07 plate LWB twin wheeler in work, its a wonderful drive but looking underneath the rust protection is not very confidence inspiring
