nationwide autocentre snapped my driveshaft

Postby adamv6 » Thu May 24, 2007 8:41 pm

long story, get comfy.

06 plate 85 t260 leased works van 26k miles.

well i took my van in to nationwide autocentre today for front brake pads after being sent to the wrong branch i found a branch in leicester that could do my pads, they set about the pads and soon told me the discs were scored, they ordered the parts which turned up about 1 hour later.

the mechanic set about fitting the pads and discs, i could see everything through the waiting room window, the guy was having trouble getting the discs off and started hitting them with a lump hammer, after that failed he got help from another mechanic, 2 of them were now battering a disc with lump hammers, eventually the disc came off and flew across the workshop. new discs were fitted and job was done.

been waiting for over 2 hours now, the mechanic started the van and started to back out the workshop, then BANG van came to a stop, drive shaft snapped, they said it was lucky it happened there and not while i was on the motorway.(idiots).

they can't get the part so the contacted ford and are trying to get it done on warrenty, van has now been recovered to for main stealer where it will stay untill wednesday when they can look at it.

i should be getting a hire van from the lease company tomorrow as ford don't have any.

i'll keep you posted.

some years ago i had a fiat Ducato (yuk) it whent into a main dealer for a job, the muppets put it on a spider ramp, but put the arms on the cills instead of the chassis, caved both of them in.

they didnt tell me either, luckly i noticed it when they gave it back to me

you could see the marks left from the rubber feet off the spider arms..

changing your front discs and pads did not break your driveshaft or weaken it.They were right, lucky it happened there and not on the motorway! :)

My money is on them pulling the splined section of the driveshaft out of the outer cv while they were smashing the bearing unit out of the knuckle.

CLOWNS

You'll be lucky if a dealer accepts it as being a manufacturing defect, as they'll have probably seen this before.

The bill should be sent to the monkies at nation wide.

had the discs been scored by contact with the metal pad backing plate?

ford are investigating it now, but it looks like nationwide will be getting a bill for it.

the pads were low but i doubt the discs needed changing, but as it's a lease van it's easy money for them.

i've got a rental van now, a 55 plate 85 t280, my vans a 85 t260. is the only difference the weight it can carry, because the 280 is rapid compared to mine. but then it empty and mine is always fully loaded.
