2.4 flywheel, solid or dual mass?

Postby tranycamperman » Sun May 27, 2007 11:34 am

What are peoples oppinions on fitting solid flywheels in place of the ford dual mass item?

I'm dubious about fitting a solid one personally, if ford could get away with fitting a cheaper solid flywheel a the factory then surely they would?

having said that i spoke to a local mechanic how mainly does vans and he says he's fitted loads of solid flywheels with no problems at all. On the other hand, a guy who fixes taxi's says that the same engine is fitted in certain cabs with a solid flywheel and they've been knocking out number 3 main bearing because of it.

Who do i believe? And do Ford do a solid flywheel conversion(i know there available from factors) my local, unhelfull ford parts counter says they don't.

It's to do with NVH. Solids are available from Ford as an optional replacement

Well I wouldn't believe it, but I'll ask when I next speak to the black cab mechanics.

Most, if not all black cabs are AUTOMATIC anyway :!: (one of the reasons I'm speaking to them )
