Mk8 seats into the rear of a mk7

Hi all, I want to fit 3 seats into the rear of the van (2+1), the quick release/folding mk8 items look just the job.

Has anyone done this? I'm thinking particularly about positioning of the seats to avoid chassis rails etc underneath the van.
If so which fitment is easiest, single or twin seat on the O/S

What ever you fit you need to fit spreader plates below the floor so the bolts don't pull through in the event of an accicdent

If so I have fitted the twin imediatley behind the driver, fairly hard to the side of the van. The mounts miss the chassis rails in this position. Due to the ribs in the floor you will need packers to level it out. I fitted spreader plates to both underneath and above floor (in a crash the seat will want to tip forward pushing the front legs through the floor) which also bridged between the ribs.

I intended to fit the single immediatly next to the twin (ie behind the passenger seat) and measured up for it so I believe it should also go in with no major issues, however the fuel tank is in the way and when it came to it I decided it wasn't a priority at the moment so haven't gone any further.

If you do fit all three it will be difficult to get into the back due to the width - you might have to open the side door to do it.

I figured that I may need packing to allow for the floor corrugations along with decent spreader plates underneath. I must admit, I hadn't thought about spreader plates above the floor....

The seats arrived the other day, the floor mounts are ~35mm deep so the plylining will need packing up a bit to make them flush, maybe inch thick sheets of polystyrene or Kingspan would do?

I'll hopefully get the carpet & ply floor out & measured up in the morning.

Yes this is what I have done, mounts are on 6mm spreader plates. Floor is 25mm kingspan with 12mm poplar ply on top, leaves just enough room to tuck carpet under the flange of the seat mounts.

Great stuff, kind of what I had in mind although I never thought of leaving a gap to tuck the carpet under.

All measured up and holes drilled on Sunday.
My rearmost bolts will all pass through the rear crossmember, just in front of the rear wheels, all of the inner mount of the double seat bolts go through the central lengthways boxing, some of the other bolts also go through boxing/stiffners underneath but I guess it'll be a bit stronger that way.

Just need to order packing, bolts and spreader plates - what size, 4'' x 4'' x 3 or 4mm thick do?

What is the position at MOT time?

My V5 states at item S.1 on page 2, "Number of seats including driver 2"

How do you get the V5 altered, is it just a letter to the DVLA, or is an inspection needed?

What about insurance? Presumably the insurance company will have to be told, as adding the extra seats will constitute a significant modification to the vehicle.

Re insurance, in readiness, I insured it as a 6 seater when the renewal was due last November.
I need to send the V5 to dvla to get it updated (good reminder!) As I understand, any issues with dvla or queries from the insurance co, I just need to get an inspection for safe installation from an mot garage.

I changed mine to a camper with extra travelling seats in back.
Send lot of pictures of work and what you need changing on you V5.
