Slack ABS Cables on New Mk7 !!

Postby ChuckH » Wed Jun 13, 2007 4:56 pm

Yesterday the ABS and ESP lights came on on My 130 LX Mk 7 SWB which has covered less than 5K miles I took it to the local Ford dealers who wanted to book it in for tommorow week !! When I complained and asked for a quick examination they at first refused So I demanded a loan van till they could sort it out The answer was they couldnt supply a van unless Mine was not driveable or unless there were safety issues !!!! My reply was that a not fully functional braking system was surely a safety issue ? Anyway after completely losing My temper they carried out a quick check Turns out that the ABS Sensor cables are hanging down near the driveshafts and one is broken The Tech says He will report this to Ford HQ as this will be the same on all vans ! Meanwhile the cables are now cable tied out of the way and the knackered one will be replaced tommorow

Point is this Anyone with A Mk 7 should look behind thier front wheels to see if thier ABS wires are hanging loose If they are then prevention is easyer and less time consuming than rectification !

There are currently no issues with damaged or loose wiring to the wheel speed sensors.

Ask the dealer to submit a GCR with digital images showing the position of the damage.
