push button manual

hi all,

I usually drive my van with the (durashift) auto option but sometimes want to manually operate the gears.
However the push buttons on the steering wheel don't respond all that well to me pressing them.
I've used some CO2 contact cleaner (just tried spraying it between the edge of the buttons) and also with my air nozzle hooked up to the compressor to try and blow any sh*t out that may be fouling the contacts but haven't been very successful sofar.
Are these switches a serviceable item and if so what is the procedure?
I'm sure if the buttons were more responsive that I would use them more often.

I think it's over 4 years champion..!

I don't think there's many "durashift" machines in the UK...so not many on here to offer help or advice.. I know nothing of the Durashift myself..

Is there a way to remove the switch assy from the steering wheel..??

So my maths is not optimal with a few scotches in my system
Just seeing quite a few others with the same problem (unresponsive buttons) i would have thought someone here would know the fix

It may not be the buttons themselves, could also be the control module not playing nice. The "durashift's" are quite rare, even here in Aus. I only know of one other here in Sydney, I'm sure there are more but I don't know of them...I understand they were only in the Mk6 too...Mk7's are all manuals only.

The van must be close to ELV by now surely? I'd meter the column side of the squib for resistance, could be faulty buttons or contacts or even ribbon tracks?

Or as others said anything between the button and the gearbox module.

i have an ASM transit as well and only one side of the steering wheel switches work. luckily its the right hand side so easier to use,i have got a spare complete steering column, steering wheel with switches and airbag, as yet i have not took them apart to see how they come out, i will let you know next week when i get home how they come out.

I'll have a go at fixing mine first to see if it's repairable.
How much would you want for just the steering wheel?

the ASM transmission was fitted to a lot of transit postie vans in OZ.

Haven't checked in for a while & just observed your reply post.

I've since used the wheel on a customers van, but will pm you if I get another soon (which I may well do)

The ASM unit has been successfully fitted also. In the process of diagnosing another problem child now.
