Buying tips 2003 330 90ps swb low roof

Postby Phil her up » Sat Jun 16, 2007 10:03 pm

Hello everyone,
I am actively looking for a transit for my new business and am going to see one that has caught my eye on Monday.
It is a 2003 SWB 90HP (2.4) 330 LOW ROOF model. It has done 90000 miles and has full ford service history.
Does anyone have any comments on this particular model with regards to known faults and general opinion please?
Thanks

Is it an ex RAC :?:

SWB and RWD is an unusual combo these days but it it the best for load carrying

Nope, the trader who is selling it says it belonged to the Kier Group. It is supposed to be very straight panelled and clean inside and out.

I want to be able to carry heavy loads on occaisions and also occaisonally tow with it too.

Builders van then. Might be the yard run around so every tom dick and twit has driven it. Or it might of been the site managers drive, which means its done bugger all work, like the site manager :P

Definitely a builders van yes.
Can anyone give any clues as to what to look out for when viewing it - i.e.anything known to have been a problem in the past?
Thanks.

A building site is like a field. rough terrain. However this field is solid, The mounds of mud are replaced by mounds of concrete. Chassis can get hit, knocked, bent. They can become twisted from diagonal high points. the sumps can be hit from bricks laying round. panels can be dented from the usual car park fiend, the JCB. Doors get slammed from pissed off workers. Concrete dust can build up in the rear, around the gearstick, in the dash, inside the seats, down that small gap, on the ceiling, round the windows. Bricks can get thrown onto the floor, workers can pile in and have their lunch in them, small plant like generators or small mixers get loaded in the back. Watch out for fresh ply lining, The floor could have more dents than a mk2 stock car.

Thanks Guys,

I know the guy has the service record book stamped up by a Ford Dealer but doubt if he has any receipts showing repairs / maintenance etc. What is the crack with the cluch on these then? Are they a known weak spot and is the solid flywheel mentioned a mod to cure a known problem too then?
