Mk8 2.2 125bhp stutter/misfire

Postby sigtravel » Mon Apr 16, 2018 7:10 pm

Right here goes...

Got a 64 plate mk 8 jumbo minibus 2.2 125bhp (with adblue). Since I have had it is has always done a little misfire/stutter at 1750revs when accelerating lightly. Took it to Ford in Liverpool and they said it was the PCM learn (I think) and they have reset it. All good for a couple of weeks then happened again but I just ignore it now - dealer was useless and I couldn't be arsed.

Last week got the bus remapped to 180bhp - amazing difference and drives so much better. However when the misfire/stutter happens at 1750revs, the engine goes into limp mode. A quick turn off and on resets it but its constantly happening. The remap is great as it means I can use higher gears like you would in older vans but as I'm accelerating lightly and hits 1750revs it just cuts into limp mode.

Any ideas whats causing it? Anyone had similar issues?

Cheers in advance

Same thing happened to my friends remapped 15plate 125 tipper. He took to to ford and they changed turbo that was last year. They done it under warrenty and never picked up on the fact it was mapped

Thanks for reply...

Warranty ran out in December 2016 - gutted.

Will speak to a turbo specialist and see what they say.

Hi, I hope you sorted the problem out in the end? I have a 2015 tourneo 125ps and while it doesn't have any 'problems' it is gutless to the point of being dangerous, particularly when fully loaded and going up any kind of gradient. I have been thinking of a remap, can I ask how you find yours now it's been done a while? What's the power and economy like and where did you get it done? Also and I guess most importantly, would you recommend getting it done? Thanks

I took the remap off in order to try to resolve the stutter problem. Still trying to sort it out but its hard to find a day where the bus isn't on the road working.

Remap is well recommended though, a friend of mine done it in Liverpool. Not sure where you are based but do some research online, I'm sure there will be some good ones near you. I didn't notice any difference in MPG, I didn't have to work the bus as hard to get any power out of it, so I think it balanced out and stayed the same.

Can't wait to get this problem sorted and remap back on there, I often tow with 16 passengers on board and full trailer of luggage or bikes, probably weighing in at best part of 5.5tonne, you can imagine how slow and underpowered mine is!

Aaahhhhh, I will be having a word with my local dealer. I have been having the same issues, not to bad at first but getting more and more frequent recently. Have it in to my local garage for an inspection and told them to do the first service and they also advised this could be a warranty job. Will let you know if there is something done.
Don't follow me, I'm crazy........ and lost!!!

My ex 18 seat bus now a camper I got it with 8000 km it’s had this stutter at 1700 ish and at 13000 miles it blow the turbo pipe off at the intercooler I re fitted it myself booked it in to Ford for a 3 rd years service with the problems also told them I was surprised about the amount of oil that was blown out of the pipe they removed the pipe refitted it top up the oil and said their was nothing wrong and cannot find any fault I am now back in Ireland and it has blown off again I rang more then one ford dealership overhear and told it runs out of warranty today even though it was five days before the registration date on logbook made it three years old and they cannot look at it till next week and I would have to pay as it would then be out of warranty I had refitted it my self to get to the camp site that night as the ford service came with breakdown assist I rang the and they sent out the AA he removed it had a look put it back on and said nothing more he could do it has since blown off twice I have double clipped it and hope it gets me home so I can take it up with ford when I get home and get it sorted under warranty
ps it has had taco removed
