the reason indicators flash at a different rate when a bulb blows is because of the change in resistance in the circuit (this is why for a trailer you need a relay for the additional indicator lights) if all your bulbs are working then the resistance in either a bulb holder or a join in the wiring has changed.
possibly shorting to ground, although not directly, allowing your lights to still work (my guess is they are a little dimmer)
this problem can also happen if a 24v bulb is fitted to a 12v system
the reason your emergency flashers work ok, is because of the way the circuit is wired (it is independent to the normal indicator circuit) it is not resistance dependant for the speed of the flashes.
check all sockets, drying them and cleaning them out, and also all joints/sockets and the earths to all of the bulbs/bulb holders, it is unlikely to be anything more major than that, worse is you might have damaged the indicator unit/relay, but i doubt it
EDIT! .... missed that bit about a towbar being fitted, these tend to have an electronic flasher unit fitted , try disconnecting the towbar electrics from the vehicle, as these electronic units can generate some interesting faults when they go wrong. if that fails remove the alarm in the same manner (this is just so you can isolate the problem to the vehicle and not an accessory)
