Clutch pedal problem

Postby Billysal » Tue Jun 12, 2018 12:51 pm

Hi Guys,

got a new issue appeared on my Transit LWB HighTop 2004. When I've been cruising in 5th on the motorway for a while, after I pull off, suddenly all the tension has gone from the clutch pedal. Meaning the effective travel of the pedal is just a few inches from the floor, and the biting point is just of the floor. The rest of the travel of the pedal is loose. So far I've always managed to change gear, although had a couple of instances where I could barely get it into first. After a few minutes it's seems to regain it's tension and work better, although it's never acting optimally, the gears always need a bit of coaxing into place. Is this a common problem? Self-adjusting tensioner? Just want to have an idea of what I'm dealing with before I go to the garage with it, or if it's possible to fix myself.

Thanks!

Billy

This is sometimes a symptom of air in the system or possibly...and more likely...a worn out clutch and/or a dying DMF.

Hmm, hope it's not the DMF!

On a Mk7 that would be the master cylinder failing.
