Postby bj928 » Sat Aug 25, 2018 3:12 am

mk1 transit but what year

Postby bulls in transit » Sat Aug 25, 2018 11:52 am

If the engine is the original the blue colour (as opposed to normally black) was fitted to european produced vans for only 6 months to identify that it had the improved water ways/oilways to Fords mechanics, engine number will tally with chassis numbers if original (just numbers),they were fitted from mid 68 to early 69,same period the dash switches changed from older to newer.

the things you learn on here, it appears all original, will have to wait and see, its said to be a 1500cc v4 engine, it must be gutless

Dont ‘think ‘ thats the VIN, on the early european ones its stamped on the top of the l/h inner wing when you open bonnet.( opposite side to steering wheel )

I'd say that was built in July 1969.

I can't decode that plate you pictured but it clearly shows various build details or options - one code is probably the original paint; others may be able to verify.

However, the two letter/five number code is the last part of the VIN (the VIN is that code preceded by four other letters which will tell you where it was built and what vehicle range it's from). It's also the engine number: you'll be able to use it to check if it is still fitted with its original engine. The first two letters are a date code and they were common to Ford of Europe cars and vans (if not to heavy commercial vehicles) at that time.

some pics i took, bought it blind, this was the first time i saw it, seems quite solid, going to need a step on both sides but other than that it doesn't look to bad
