Heat Shot-windscreen washer heater.

Postby Mike » Wed Nov 14, 2018 11:43 am

Has anyone tried the Heat Shot windscreen washer heater? It heats a small amount of washer liquid in 30seconds, so helps clear ice in the winter and seems to do a better job of clearing grease and bugs in warmer weather.

It took about 40mins to fit http://www.heatshot.com/uk/

Looks interesting.... but no

I would imagine a heated screen would be much better though?

Years ago on one of my vans I got a long length of washer pipe and coiled it round my heater pipe to warm up the water cheep as chips not that price that’s a lot of money to spend on washers

I did that on my MK6, probably the best ‘free’ mod ever.

Heated screens are useless when the water in the pipes is already frozen :P

Strangely, Ford fit heated washer jets to some vehicles, and then fit the water bottle in the inner wing where it goes solid. I fitted a heated transfer coil (bit of coiled copper pipe around the heater hose) on the Mk6, but the jets still used to freeze, and I never got around to fitting heated jets :P

These are great, I first saw them a couple of years back, at the NEC, but I still can't get my head around the price they charge for what is, a small heat exchanger

I fitted focus heated jets to the mk7, they made a big difference, as it’s usually the jets that freeze.

I did look at the heat shot doodah and probably would have fitted it if I’d have kept the mk7, it looked good.

From around £75 upward, and a legitimate business expense as well Al

Where did you find them for £75 :?:

They were around £250, and they were doing a 'show special' for £200

I saw an expedition truck for Siberia that had some sort of nichrome wire coiled round the washer bottle and washer pipes up to the jets.

When I started my mechanic apprenticeship in 1981 the garage I was at had a petrol fourcort as well, in the shop they sold a kit that was a small saddle like tank that was secured to the top hose then joined between the washer bottle and jets. Loads of people had them fitted, they were pretty useless, rather like this thing Mikes fitted

Look at along the lines of

A cup full of warm water hits a frozen windscreen and ........ freezes on contact. By which time you have no rubber on your wiper blades because they were stuck to the windscreen by the frost.. or you blow the fuse for the motor. If it's fitted to a mark 7 you will blow the fuse when you try to replenish the water to the unit if its cold  fuse roulette

If someone could come up with a proper working solution to the frosted windscreen/ frozen jets/ frozen washer bottle etc and be able to keep a windscreen clean no matter what the weather. They would a rich person
