Mk8 Adaptive cruise control

Postby Traco » Mon Jan 07, 2019 11:31 am

Hi - just wondering if anyone has an issue with a Mk8 and the adaptive cruise control and if so could you share? If not here a PM would be appreciated.

Its 2016, highly spec'd trend. L350 trend with 155bhp. Its minded like a small child and was spec'd and purchased new. The mileage is low on it but need to check, low to mid 30k kms at present.

It will emergency brake and has done so in good conditions for no reason and the brakes will not release until the brake pedal is manually pressed all the way down. Only then does the system reset and release the brakes.

I can't say that I've heard of that problem before, but it may be worth checking that the radar unit is in its correct position, and not obscured in any way

I will have a look. It’s going back in again but I think it’s too random for that I suspect.

I had a look and can’t see anything that looks like a sensor (found pics of what it’s like on IS cars) but doesn’t seem to be fitted to mine.

There are two sensors up behind the rear view mirror on the windscreen. One sort of looks a bit like a camera but don’t think it is. It’s rectangular in shape the other is circular with several dots on the glass.

You may have a forward facing camera behind the mirror if you have speed sign recognition, or auto dipping headlights, but I don't think the cruise uses it at all. The other sensor may be for auto wipers :?:

What you will have with 'ACC' is a RADAR unit, mounted at the front, low down, behind one of the grilles. My thinking is that if this unit is obscured, or moved position, it won't be able to "see" properly, and may be giving false data

Will have a look again. Any pics of where it should be located. I couldn’t see it behind the main grill so maybe it’s down in the bumper area

The Bemm manual metions getting vertical alignment of the radar checked by a dealer if the vehicle weight or geometry is significantly altered.

Here's the location of the radar:

That on mine. All the sensors are behind amtye plastic panel that’s part of the grill. Everything looks tight as afar as I can make out but very hard to tell without taking the grill off. It’s back to a Ford dealer on Monday so let’s see what they say.

Well it’s back from the dealer so we will wait and see. Radar module was checked and recalibrated and theee was a software update. Apart from that nothing else to report. Hopefully that’s it sorted and we can get some confidence back in the system.
