Windscreen Condensation

Our motorhome based on a transit gets a lot of condensation on the inside of the screen overnight when we are sleeping in her.

If I use a squegee to scrape the water off I wonder where it would drain too? If there is a drain from the screen where is it?

I ask because the foor mat underside on the drivers side is getting wet.

Hi Ian, there probably wouldn’t be an internal drain. Windscreen covers work well but inside or outside make a difference maybe you need to vent the van a bit more when you’re in there. The manual container type dehumidifiers that you get in supermarkets are really helpful

Get a window vac Brill piece of kit and surprisingly how much water they remove or outside thermal s screen I have a sst for my mk6 but when it's raining when you park up it's a pain to put on and store when wet so that's why I got a window vac

We have a motorhome too.

The condensation on the windscreen is horrendous, despite running a couple of fans all the time.
One blows fresh air in, the other sucks the not so fresher air out.

We have a Karcher window vac which is brilliant for the top area of the screen.
Unfortunately the angle doesn't allow it to dry the lower quarter of the screen.

What we do now is use towelling in a long thin sausage all the way along where the glass meets the dash.
Right annoying if we forget to do it before going to bed.

We do have external screens that solve the problem but it's too much of a faff in the cold and wet.

Brilliant for use in southern €U to keep the sun out tho'!!

I also use a window vac but had no problem with the bottom of the screen use it on its side with the large suction blade bet you have to empty it a lot more as running on it’s side it tends to leek a bit

External windscreen insulated covers stop virtually all condensation!
Understand the window vacs are good...but never had a need for one

External would be the best option if you didn't have to store them wet and fitting and removing the in the rain and wind also a pain I read a post on hear that it was possible to also fit then on the inside instead I fitted pop studs so I could the fit them on the inside after that I always fit them inside but that still gives you condensation

I’d say the heating system your using is causing it,I have an Eberspacher and never have a problem with condensation thankfully.

I never use the Eberspacher to sleep all the night all the vans I’ve built have been well insulated and good sleeping bags I’ve been ok I use it when parked up drinking ice cold beer

When it’s -16 Mate I have mine on all night

If you take a severed human head out of the fridge the same thing will happen to that
It's to do with the glass being at a different temperature to the warm air in your van and atmospheric pressure and dew point n sh*t
When the air meets the glass it cools and as we all know cooler air dosent hold as much moisture than warm air
Bish bosh wet window same as an uninsulated van roof

is insulated it as good old ejb retorts
