It's quite noticeable, how many Transits are out and about working for a living now. There was a time, before the Custom and Mk8 were announced, when it was quite hard to spot a Transit on the motorway, the big van market then, seemed to be claimed by Merc, VW and Iveco.
I've noticed that the local council are using more Transits, as are the rescue services.

It's just sad that Ford are only interested in the high volume markets, leaving those of us running 1-3 vans high and dry when it comes to competitive prices and priority servicing :? I wonder what those figures would be, if they actively sought out the small traders and offered them better deals and service :?:

So there's 54,000 Customs and 32,000 Transits all in White and at Pauper Spec been sold into the hire company's and big fleet operators at cost + 5 % to get the sales. Lucky enough the big Hire firms do their own servicing as do the big fleet operators, because there's not a Cat in Hells chance the Ford dealers could deal with that lot

I agree, purchasing has never been a problem, service is woeful though. But vote with your feet :D

Not withstanding the running costs and residuals (that drive fleet purchases), the Transit and Custom sell well because they are a good product.

The offerings from VW, Merc, Vauxhall and Citroen are old fashioned with horrible interiors.
Ford have realised that people want vans that look decent and have nice interior. It doesn't cost much to add a bit of style, but their competition don't seem capable.

I just looked at the new Sprinter, it's a nightmare.
There are no standard trim levels, everything is an option.
You have to choose about 50 options to get a half decent van.

Still, properly specced, I might be interested in the Sprinter crew cab to replace my mk8 in a few years time.
Got a feeling it will be so expensive though, once you add the toys, so I will go with Ford again.

I thought it would be a winner because of the 4x4 option, but you can only get a 4x4 AWD Crewcab with 5 tonne GVW, which is a shame.

My wait for a 4x4 auto crewcab continues...

I was lucky to get 36% in late December 2017 but I see this December just gone the same company are only doing 30%.
Personally I don’t think you can go wrong with a Transit for the spec and cost. I but you would probably pay over 30k for a like for like Merc or VW

i think it really depends what you need the vehicle for 30k a year ok but serious mileage no unless you have backup, the two week cycle for a repair is totally unacceptable

I think we must be quite lucky up here, we get excellent warranty and service work from our local dealer, always have a loan van for us, and will even squeeze an old 12 plate with a coolant leak in on a Friday afternoon and promise it’ll be ready for Monday

I think you have a bit more pull with having a fleet of 15+ vans
