“Passenger rear door open”

Postby 75psT330lwb » Sat Feb 09, 2019 1:02 pm

Have this message popping up on the dashboard randomly with the beeping noise! I mentioned it to ford when it last went in for a recall and they said they’ve fitted a new door switch. After picking up the van it looked to me like they haven’t even touched the rear door latches as they were still covered in dirt/dust. I’ve removed the rear door latch and there are no electrics involved but I gave it a good cleanup and lube and the door seems to be closing better. Am I barking up the wrong tree and is it actually the side door I should be looking at??? I thought the side door being open displayed a different message? Any ideas would be appreciated as the van makes the horn sound when i try to lock it!! Cheers

I'm fairly sure that you have driver and passenger doors then passenger and driver rear doors that are the sliding doors and then rear cargo door or rear luggage compartment doors. There's only 1 switch for the back door latch.

I think you’re right pal. Did a bit of checking/testing earlier. I’ve come to the conclusion it may be something as daft as some materials pressing against the door and activating the switch. I think I’m going to put a piece of timber across the load space to stop things coming into contact with the door.

The back door mechanism will be full latch the same with the front doors, I'd say fairly hard to fool by pushing the door, the sliding doors are pin switches which leaning pushing the doors out could possibly do it, especially if previously the doors have been slammed as I believe the pin switches are adjustable and the set up on the first shut but slamming them hard enough could in theory push them in a notch which would mean an extra mm of loose.
Not sure what van you have but I think a cargo tipper side doors are latch the same as front doors so no.
